Is "fair trade" food just a scam?!
How do we know more money goes to the farmers?
I think anything like this is a total scam.
A way for the supermarkets and big business to charge more and get more profits

I have friends who work in the fair trade food industry. It really is a win win for the small farmer and the worker. Contracts are agreed between the farmer and the purchaser to pay a fair price for the food as long as the farmer pays fair wages. This allows the small farmer to be able to have select markets for his products a slightly higher price than if he sold them to a large company who will only buy at the maximum lowest price they have to. By this agreement he is then truly able to pay his workers a better living wage and they will even work harder for him because of his fairness to them. As in any organization there can be people who are corrupt but this is monitored very closely and if found then the contract then nullified and it becomes harder for the farmer to even sell his product as his workers will usually move onto another farm. Big corporations in the food industry are notorious for paying the lowest price even at the expense of people. It is not a market driven by supply and demand but is controlled by the corporations and they set the price for their maximum profit
