In England do the fast food menus say Chips or Fries on them?!

Question: just wondering.

Answers: just wondering.

Chips are different to fries here in the UK. We have fries in McDonalds (very thin cut, full of grease, don't taste of anything) and then we have chips like in a chip shop. They are very thick cut, they use less grease and they actually taste of potato. Chip shops usually sell battered deep fried fish along with the chips. We also have crisps which are American "potato chips" which usually come in small bags in newsagents in some odd flavours like worcestershire sauce, picked onion and prawn cocktail.

As for chips, we tend to put salt and vinegar on them and sometimes ketchup. Some people put mayonnaise on them but personally I think that's just odd. In the North of England, they put gravy and mushy peas on their chips and in some parts of scotland they put cheese on them or chip sauce (a mix of brown sauce, salt, ketchup and vinegar).

Either.

chips

Normally chips... but in fast food chains they offer fries

chips

i believe it says chips.

fish n chip shops have chips.
burger bars have fries
cafes tend to have chips
but whatever you ask for they know what you mean

Chips

it depends.

most restraunts usually say fries to try and be posh.

ie McDonalds

Fries.

But in england there is a distiction between fries and chips. Chips are big and fat and are made of potatoes. Found in Fish and Chip shops. Fries are skinny and I dread to think what they are made of!! I hope potatoes but I heard they mix it with corn and animal fat! These are mostly found in MacDonalds, etc.

Some places offer a choice of fries or chips.

It depends on the nature and quality of the restaurant. Generally they are called chips but some upper class restaurants call them fries on their menu.

It depends on weather you are in a Cafe in which case the majority will have Chips, but if it's an American based fast food outlet like McDonald's/KFC etc then it will be French Fries. What we call Crisps the Americans call Chips for some unknown reason.

They say chips, because they are chipped potatoes.

in their own right all the answrs are worth the 10 points

macdonalds say fries-cafes and chippys say chips

chippys

It depends, if you're in McDonalds it's fries, if you're in a chippy (chip shop) then it's chips!

yo!! they can be both! but normally chips are chunky and fries are skinny! Both are made of potatoes, Yes McDonalds use "fries" made by McCain so they contain potatoes!!! McDonalds and most american owned resturants call them Fries....even the chunky chips are called Chunky Fries and Curly Fries!!

It's fries in places like KFC, McDonalds and Burger King. Takeaways have chips on the menu.

chips. or if you go to a specifically American diner (i've not seen one about, but i'm sure they're out there) they'll call them fries.
oh and in fast food places they're called fries too. they don't taste that nice though :/ too much salt.
i put mayonnaise on my chips :D
