Someone mentioned to me that you shouldn't eat raw vegetables and?!
Answers: cooked vegetables together in the same meal because they 'work against' one another in the digestion process. Has anyone else heard this, and could point me to some reading material regarding it?
I have listed the source for the whole thing but only this part might interest you:
Some food enthusiasts argue that eating cooked and uncooked food is not good because cooked food may cause production of acid in the stomach which could cause indigestion.
While someone may have suffered indigestion because of eating cooked and raw food, there is no scientific basis for indigestion as acid is always secreted in the stomach when we eat food. Most of the digestion does not take place in the stomach but rather in the small intestines where the environment is less acidic. Except for proteins, little digestion takes place in the stomach.
I've never heard anything like this. As far as I know, digestion is digestion.
I have never heard this
Nope- never heard of it- doesn't make sense.
I have never heard this before.
never heard that
As so often happens, someone with an inkling of information, misunderstands it and tells someone else something entirely different - what was that game they used to play?? Where you whisper something in someones ear and see what that whispered statement is on the other end of the room???
To answer your question, that is ridiculous and not likely!
I eat both, and am in perfect health(i.e. still alive at 65, well really 69 but that doesn't rhyme.) I take probiotics: lactobacillis (acidophilus, plantarium, casei, brevis, bulguaricus, bifidum, rhahamnosus and kefir strains)...I get 5 billion little helpers to aid digestion and counteract the harmful bacteria. I also take vitamins(expecially E), Omega-3, and CoQ10 enzymes. It's a wonder there is any room left for food!
We can't believe everything we hear. That raw vs. cooked idea is yet another food fad.
It's like the notion that proteins, carbs and fats shouldn't be eaten together. And the food-combining diet, which says you shouldn't eat carbs with citrus fruits. And the raw food diet, which says you should eat almost no cooked food.
All those fads depend on a lack of knowledge about how human digestion works. So put your time into learning that instead.
