Why do all americans hate vegemite?!

Question: Vegemite is seriously the best aussie food in the world.

Answers: Vegemite is seriously the best aussie food in the world.

Americans are raised with sweets, they are used to sugar, and everything being sweet. So the idea of having something salty for breakfast isn't custom

Don't think I ever had it.

Wow, reading the answers sounds like you're being the bitchy one. Maybe I should generalize like you and start saying all Aussies are big azzholes. Since it fits you so well.

i'm american, and i like it. i think it looks pretty gross though. maybe that's what turns people off.

ive never tried it......and it doesnt really look all that appetizing

I wouldn't say all Americans hate it. Most probably have never heard of it.

I don't hate it. It is a 'different' taste but i do enjoy eatingit every now and then. Too bad its a pain to get here....

They haven't tried it nor have they tried Marmite.

Because we didn't grow up eating it, so we didn't have a chance to get used to it and forget how utterly icky it looks and tastes. *g*

who knows? maybe its just an acquired taste? personally i live of the stuff!

seriously.

although caramello koala bears are serious contenders for the title

like to try it! not a veg hater!

How come all Aussies assume that Americans hate something they have never even tried?

I think that Australians like it because they grew up eating it, whether they like it or not. American culture does not include vegemite or foods like it in most of our diets.

They don't.

we dont all hate it ! we just choose to not eat it.

I've never had it before, but from the photos I could find of it it doesn't look too appetizing. Not too sure if I'd try it based on the look.

Vegemite is the best! i'm eating some right now with cheese lol

Americans dont like it because its not covered in sugar, or fatty.. it doesnt fit in their diet.. because they dont eat good stuff haha

I've been really wanting to try vegemite. It sounds pretty good for breakfast. When I eat breakfast I really don't want something that's so sweet it hurts my teeth, or something that's going to make me crash moments later, a lot of my friends are like this too. Recently, a lot of Americans (at least the ones I've been around) have been pretty health conscious, trying to avoid sugary and fatty foods, along with some with excessive sodium. I even have a friend who refuses to eat sweets, even on special occasions. I think the color of vegemite is a bit off putting for a breakfast food and a lot of Americans haven't grown up with it and it's extremely foreign looking, staring them in the face on a piece of toast. It's probably really strange on their first bite because they are expecting something like jam and instead get something extremely salty (I've heard vegemite's really salty).
