Are English muffins really English?!

Question: What's the story behind them?

Answers: What's the story behind them?

Muffins are simply referred to as "muffins" in the UK, except when specifically to distinguish them from American-style muffins, in which case they are usually called "hot muffins", "breakfast muffins", or "English muffins".

Why yes dear, and here in merry old england we simple call them 'muffins' - aha!

I don't know, but they are real good with butter & jelly on them.

They were created in England in the mid 1840s. In England they call them muffins, but since we have regular muffins in america, we call them English Muffins.
