Why does McDonalds use "fake" onions?!

Question: And if they dont wanna splurge on something so cheap, how many corners are they cutting when buying meat for the burgers? It just makes me wonder what the hell were eating. Yea it tastes good and thats why I wonder why it tastes different than one I make at home. What the heck is in that beef?

Americans spend more money on fast food than on higher education, personal computers, computer software or new cars. Every month more than 90 percent of American children eat at McDonald's; the average American eats three hamburgers and four orders of french fries every week.

What's in all those hamburgers? They're most likely made from the meat of worn-out dairy cows (generally the least healthy cattle stock), which spend their days packed in feedlots full of pools of manure. Each burger contains parts of dozens or even hundreds of cows, increasing the likelihood that a sick one will spread its pathogens widely.

Would you like ground spinal cord with that?
The author of "Fast Food Nation" says you just might not want to know what the burger giants are serving.

Until 1997, those cows, by nature designed to be herbivorous, were fed "livestock waste" -- rendered remains of dead sheep and cattle, along with the remains of millions of dead cats and dogs purchased every year from animal shelters. Thank God the law was changed: Now they're fed only the remains of horses, pigs and poultry. And if you think your fries are animal-free, guess again. While McDonald's no longer cooks them in beef tallow, a process that until 1990 gave the chain's french fries more saturated fat per ounce than its burgers, McDonald's still acknowledges that some of the flavor comes from "animal products."

They're not fake, they're just rehydrated minced onions. I'm not sure what's in the beef, but I know it's not very good for you.

McDonalds' spares every expense when they purchase their meat. It is made from fat, gristle, blood clots and other spare parts so it will properly stick to itself and not fall apart. (This statement was intended in regards to their beef and chicken nuggets.)Like bologna, hot dogs, salami and other pressed meats, once I saw the process and realized what they made it from, I didn't touch it again. Their onions are just reconstituted in meat grease and water. You could do the same thing at home buy purchasing the dehydrated form and soaking in a bit of water or broth for 15 minutes.

Those are NOT fake onions. They use DEHYDRATED onions. The arrive dry in packages and they add water to rehydrate them. Onions are perishable and hard to store. To purchase locally and cut, etc is cost prohibitive. Their beef comes from cows like other beef. Often they use beef from Argentina, which has good beef and a very large cattle industry.
McDonalds has quality food.

Where are you from? The McDonalds restaurants in my city use real onions, as far as I know. They taste like real onions and they look like real onions. What is a fake onion? Do you mean dehydrated onions? They're real too.

I don't care for fast food as much as home cooked food, but when I have eaten any McDonald's food I have not noticed fake onions or fake beef. Maybe I need to pay more attention. hah Now I'm hungry for a happy meal. Remember those? I used to love the little toys that came in them when I was a kid.

What meat ? That is fake also .

they arent fake they are dehydrated and packaged so that all you have to do is add water and rehydrate. i dont even work at a mcdonalds and i know that. the beef they use is processed and the difference is the beef you use isnt processed and compressed with added flavors. you use raw ground meat which makes for a plumper and more savory burger.

not just that but everything their is fake , and well y cause their cheap...and america eats alot and well.............alot of cheap money turns out to be big cash for them...y do you think they always say..would you like to super size that for only a quarter more....they are really telling you...wanna give us more $$ for more fake cheap stuff....and well...we still buy it so yeah ...
