Any sardine lovers?!

Question: I would like to develop a taste for sardines since they are so good for you. But, to be honest, I have never even tried one. Any recommedations for a good brand? I don't want to get a bad one and be turned off of them forever. Thanks! Also, the best ways to eat them. I have heard ones in oil are better?

I am a former chef and for someone who has not had them I would recommend 2 of the Millionaire brand first the brisling in soya oil or olive oil are very nice, they are very small and can be eaten whole, no real bones and then there is the boneless one (green and gold label), just pure fillets of sardines in a oil pack.

I have used them alot for canapes and my mother and I would on occasion when I came home for a visit would crack open a few tins of the brisling ones. Some tend to be larger and boneier, here in Canada we have a brand called Connors, I have had a number of theres, my favorites are the oil packed or the ones with Tabasco pepper sauce in the tin.

I like to eat them one good brown bread with real butter, some sliced onions some times a grind of fresh pepper, my mother likes them mash with mustard and mayo like a tuna sandwich, o.k but I want to know I am eating sardines, buy a can and try them if your not fond of them the cat will eat them in no time.

Sardines in oil straight out the can with some fresh saltine crackers.
Can't beat em'.

Sardines are discusting. You can find way better tasting things, that are just as healthy.

The ones in plain water are best.
Just buy a can from the supermarket. They are very cheap, maybe a dollar or less.
Just eat them as they are, without further preparation, with salad or something.

I would start slow on this one if you are not a fish lover to start with. The very tiny ones come salted in tins as well as olive in in jars. There are much larger ones better for open air grilling, cleaned and gutted but grilled whole and you eat them around the bones. Favoured in Greek cuisine, Swedish, Norweigian cuisine as well.

Spicy w/crackers

I love the ones in Mustard or Dill sauce, the ones in oil are good too. I eat them right from the can or some times i put them on crackers.

Close your eyes, think of lobster or prime rib. Iguarentee you'll love them.

I like King Oscar sardines packed in water. I eat them on toasted whole wheat bread with mustard, tomato and lettuce. Healthy and good.

i like them packed in hot sauce or mustard.
