Why is cottage cheese so called?!

Because it is relatively easy to make, and so could be made on a small scale, in cottages!

I'm no expert, but I believe it comes from the homosexual act of 'cottaging' wherby middle aged men hang around local park toilets waiting for other young men to er...ahem....make some cheese with them.
