What's a good, but healthful alternative for candy?!

Question: I love candy, but it's causing problems for my teeth, I have a lot of cavities from sweets. Anybody know anything else that is good?

I would suggest dried fruit - it is naturally sweet and wonderful! And so many choices - cranberries, apricots, plums, cherries, strawberries. Just make sure that they are just the dried fruit and that there is no additional sugar added. Some companies add sugar to their dried fruit - so try to steer clear of those!

Also, you can opt for dark chocolate - it has many great qualities. I usually just buy a bar of 70% dark cacao and nibble at it - just break off a square here and there. There isn't as much sugar in this either but some people need to develop a taste for it.

You can also go for chocolate covered nuts, yogurt or fresh fruit!

I always drink some water and swish it around in my mouth after i eat sweets, if I can't immediately brush - it helps wash some of the sugar off (you can use the same method when you drink sodas)

Also, just remember everythign in moderation! Just cut your sweet in-take. I always say that i'd rather eat 1/3 of a snickers bar than a whole fat free knockoff

Good Luck!

fruit like oranges, apples, any kind of berries, mangos, pineapple, kiwi, banana

Sugar free candy.

Sugar-Freeeeeee

fruit.

I second the suggestion of fruit. But if you're not hungry then try sugar free gum. =)

dried fruit!! it tastes just like candy but its so healthy

sugar free trident gum... the tropical citrus flavor is the best

Try sugar free but they still have sugar in it. Just don't eat the whole bag (lol)

Nuts are very good for you.

I often eat unsalted peanuts, salted cashews or roasted peanuts in the shell, but all nuts are good for you and keep your hands busy too.

If it's doing that to your teeth, imagine what it's doing to your insides!!! There are a TON of sugar free candies on the market nowadays, sweetened with sucralose (Splenda) which is both sweet and non caloric.....That is if you need to eat candy.....remember that "moderation" credo that applies to drinking liquor??? I don't buy it, so it's never in the house, so there's no temptation.....a lot of the suggestions here are good, but you still need to address your dental problems, eating fruit is great, but it has fructose in it, which can (in several hours) do as much damage as glucose or dextrose (which is found in candies)......My suggestion?? Find a sugarfree gum that you like and when you get the feeling for candy, grab a stick of gum and chomp down on that.....Good luck, and Enjoy!!!
