When I eat bread, it makes me feel tired, any ideas please?!
Answers: Do not eat lots of it.
It's the carbs in the bread that is making you feel so tired! It is the same thing with white potatoes or noodles too,as soon as you eat them, you feel tired. Foods high in carbs such as white bread, white potatoes, noodles, etc will cause you to feel tired because these foods are high in sugar which will raise your blood sugar rapidly, and then you will crash soon afterword because of the carbs and high sugar content.
Always eat your bread with some hot chocolate or some liquid
bread most likely raises your sugar really high..it does for me too.
Dont eat bread at all try something else like rice cakes
You could have a gluten allergy (aka wheat allergy). Its something that has been popular especially amongst the rich and famous, it sounds cliched but it does exist. Try eating brown bread and see if that helps.
If you get the same reaction to white rice and cereal then it's worth avoiding it
Maybe you've got some kind of gluten-intolerance?
Go see a doctor to find out
Some people are kind of allergic to wheat without even knowing it. It wont make you sick or cough, or tongue or throat swell like most allergies do, but it will make you very tired and lethargic.
It is not dangerous, but it will make you feel awful. Because it is not dangerous, try eating another wheat product and see how you feel. If you feel the same, then try and switch to oat bread or the like.
If it doesn't make you feel the same, the bread you are eating could be too heavy for your digestive system (everyones is different) in this case, try switching to whole wheat, or if you live in the UK, a bread brand called 'Nimble' is very good for this.
its probably because it makes you feel bloated and full. also some white bread contains alot of sugar so it might make you crash after about half an hour when your blood sugar drops again. try eating more wholemeal bread or granary bread instead.
You should consider getting a food intolerance test. Your doctor should be able to advise you on this, though some health food shops run (eg Holland & Barrett) run occasional clinics.
Just read the Abs Diet. It actually makes sense to me. The bread we have nowadays have been so refined that our bodies tend to quickly absorb the sugar/ carb which makes our blood sugar shoot up. The thing is that it plunges back down just as fast. That's when it back-fires and we get tired and sluggish. Try whole wheat or whole grain bread instead.

Aloha from Down Unda!
The same ole 'tired' feeling overwhelms me when I work so I jes don't work!
That is suppose to mean, "don't eat bread" if you don't wanna 'feel tired'
Best wishes
[I iz a genius, huh?!]
I agree with Aprilshowers - its probably a result of the fact that carbohydrates such as bread enter the bloodtsream quickly and leave just as quickly, causing the "peak and trough" effect in our energy levels. I sometimes find the same problem when I eat bread, it makes me want a nap!
Try wholemeal bread or swap bread for something else starchy ie have a jacket potato instead of a sandwich for lunch or a bowl of porridge instead of toast for brekkie etc.
I would be VERY wary of anyone who suggests you have an "allergy", "intolerance" etc to bread/wheat/yeast. Such things do exist (Coeliac disease is a recognised medical condition) but would be more likely signalled by symptoms such as abdominal pains, diarrhoea and general ill health. There are unfortunately a whole wealth of holistic quacks out there who will "diagnose" so-called intolerances to wheat, dairy etc at the drop of a hat and most of the time its just nonsense.
A friend of mine became very ill after being put on one of these no wheat no dairy no salt no sugar diets (she was even told to avoid/limit her intake of fruit and veg for God's sake!!! Way to develop Scurvy!) so I have very little faith in this diets.
Maybe you're reacting to the starch...buy light or wheath bread
your blood glucose levels spike after eating carb (bread, rice, potatoes, etc). after you body has its insulin release, you can feel tired
You could have an intolerance to Wheat. Try leaving bread containing wheat out of your diet for a while.
There are some really nice Rye breads about and Rice cakes can be bought and make a nice change to bread.
