Are eggs good after the experation date?!
Answers: Probably a dumb question but...I was going to have a hard boiled egg but the experation date said Jan 2. Should I just throw them away?
The way to know a good egg, is to put the egg into a pan of cold water; the fresher the egg, the sooner is will fall to the bottom; if rotten, it will swim at the top.
There is a small air pocket in the large end of the egg. When the egg is fresh, the pocket is only about 1/8th of an inch deep and as large around as a dime. As the egg ages, however, it loses both moisture and carbon dioxide ? shrinking ? so that the size of the air space increases. And the size of the air space determines the buoyancy of the egg. So if you submerge a very fresh egg in water, it will lie on the bottom. An egg that is a week or so old will lie on the bottom but bob slightly. An egg that is three weeks or so old will balance on its small end, with the large end reaching for the sky. And a bad egg will float.
This is why they put an expiration date on them. Would you drink milk from the 2nd?

well I wouldn't eat it. just throw them away
As long as there not months old we use them and have never gotten sick. You will know once you crack it rotten eggs have a very strong odor.
umm, ya no! maybee like a day, but no longer than that! you dont know how long they were in the barn or what ever so...
why not just buy new ones? and don't buy so many so you can use them in time
The expiration date is not the date after which it instantly goes bad. It is the date after which the manufacturers / producers can no longer guarantee the product.
The best way to look at it is that if stored appropriately, an expriation date is actually a "Best Before" date (which is why they actually state 'Best Before' on most of the dates). Properly refrigerated, eggs will be good for about 2 weeks afterwards. Improperly refrigerated, they won't even make the Best Before date.
If you hard boil them after buying them (and keep them in the fridge), you can probably make that 3-4 weeks, and a couple of months if you freeze them!
In any case, crack one open and check if it seems ok. If it smells, toss 'em all.
I have eaten eggs which are more than 2 weeks old.
I have never heard of the water thing though. Eggs if kept in the frige can be a month past due and they will be ok.
Who do you think puts expiration dates on things? People who sell em. Most expiration dates only mean they can not be sold past that date anymore. it gives people an idea of how long something has been on the shelf and it assures you that it is storable once you buy it.
Milk is always good for 2 weeks past the date. If you are too worried cook em up and taste a small bite. If they taste ok then don't worry about it. Smell is hard to go by cuz eggs just stink anyway.
if you are using the "sink" method.. you need to do it when the egg is room temperature or it does no good :)
hell yes you should throw them away that bat 4 ur health
The expiration date is the sell by date. I have used eggs that were 1 month past that date with no problems. Old eggs actually make for better boiled eggs, they peel easier.
