In the UK is it true that if you go round the back of some supermarkets you can get access to old food thrown?!

Question: out?

Is it practical to get food this way, or could you end up nicked or otherwise in trouble.

I don't need food I'm just curious.

Cheers.

The larger supermarkets tend to lock their bins up or incinerate their waste, but the smaller shops don't. They just put it in the bin out back. You can go and get it out if you like.

Sure can!

I used to work at a supermarket when at uni and would spoil the packets/tins etc on purpose and buy them in the bargain bin or take them from the waste, i lived on gateaux!

Yes it's true, there are people who regularly do it, and you don't have to be hard up to do it!! I suppose the better the shop, the better the throwouts!

people who do it are called freegans
