Your taste buds only detect taste, not flavour. Taste buds detect sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami. Flavour is the combination of these elements, plus the smell. So if you can't smell, you can't taste properly.

It is in your 3 senses. If you close your eyes you will also have trouble identifying things.
