Have you ever tried any of the veggie burgers?!

Question: I'm basically a red meat person, I was wondering is they taste like lettuce or does the texture fool you into believing it is good?
I'm trying to decide if I want to spring this on my family, but NOT tell them it's a veggie.
Can you taste the difference?

I have tried a veggie burger. Didn't taste like a burger and didn't taste like vegetables either, I love vegetables so I didn't understand that.

I always wonder why these vegetarian items are often shaped to imitate meat. I have seen them made to imitate pork chops. Why? Last week while shopping at my Asian market I was so surprised (first time I ever saw this) when I saw what looked like unusual Cornish hens in the frozen section. Upon examination I found out they were made of tofu. Again, if you don't want to eat meat why have your vegetables formed to look like meat. Doesn't make any sense at all to me.

Thank you for your response. When I vegetables I know what I'm eating and when it's meat I sure know the difference. No confusion in this house. Report It

  • Boca burgers are nasty....don't do that to your family

Depending on which brand you get (there are tons more out there than just Boca and Gardenburgers), veggie burgers can be very moist and flavorful! They aren't going to fool somebody into thinking it is a hamburger, but if you are open to different flavors you may very well enjoy them. They definitely do not taste like lettuce, as most of them are a combination of legumes and more substantial veggies.

There are some nasty ones, but there are some really good ones. It does not taste like lettuce. My favorite is flavorful and has beans, and all kinds of veggies and corn meal in it. They taste better made fresh at home, than frozen. Try it at a restaurant and you will see.

Beef ones aren't very good unless you really put a lot on it- like melted cheese, lettuce, ketchup- I can tell the difference with the smell...however, I may have learned to smell the difference as a way to protect myself against accidentally being fooled into eating beef.

    Breaded soy/chicken is the best!!!
you can't tell them apart from chicken fingers you find in the freezer.
I put them on buns with some ketchup...or mayo- and yuuuuum. You can't tell.
    You can also get nuggets.

They'd never know..with that one. Needs to be oven heated!

soya balls instead of meat balls are good as well-oven heated! how you cook makes a difference.

If you're going to spring a fake meat product on your family, I suggest you try Morningstar Farm's fake sausage patties. They totally fooled my "I hate vegetables" boyfriend.

The Boca burger is alright, it kind of can taste like a Burger King Whopper with ketchup and mayo, but they don't have the same juicy texture of a true burger.
The garden burgers are very, very veggie and not trying to be a fake beef. I like the portabello garden burgers, personally.

The garlic boca burgers taste like they have fake, raunchy garlic in it, it's indescribable, but it just taste like funky fake garlic.

I gave up red meat about 3 years ago and now eat "fake meat" products all the time. As far as tricking your family into thinking they are real, it won't work. I try to mix my veggie products into dinners with my fiance all the time, he always knows. It's not that Garden Burgers, or Boca products are bad, I like them a lot, they just aren't meat and taste different. Your best bet is probably to make your own veggie burgers. They still don't taste like meat, but they are thicker than the store brands and have a better flavor, and probably look a little more like a regular burger. Defiantly one of my favorite foods! Here's a recipe that I use. I make lots and then freeze them to make quickly later. Really good for you, and I prefer the taste to meat. Hope that helps. :)

I've eating veggie burgers and they don't taste like beef but they're not bad. Just make sure you get a quality brand.

If health is a concern, try turkey. I am a meat eater too and I have recently fallen in love with portabella burgers. Has more protein than red meat plus won't kill your heart. I think its a great way to introduce veggie into a family diet.

no there's no available here in our place, but there's a hamburger w/c patties r made of fish fillet, i didnt ordered it yet...
