I had a professor tell me once that rats like to hang out in warehouses that store and grind spices. And they could fall into the grinder and no one would be the wiser... consider ground black pepper.

There are thousands of parasites per cubic inch of beef.

Fresh, ripe fruits (like apples, pears, bananas) usually have the maggots of fruit flies in them. They are not harmful to you...it's free protein.

The government has a limit on the number of rodent hairs or rodent poops that can be contained within a specific food item.

there are thousands of living parasites on cheese.
if we knew would we still eat it?
;-)

there is an actually number of none food contaminants that can legally be present in food stuffs and still pass inspection. Things like rodent dropping, hair, plain old dirt etc.

mushrooms are a fungus, but fools eat them anyway but won't eat the blue mold found on stale bread and that contains penicillan.

In France, people eat approximately 500,000,000 snails per year.
A portion of the water you drink has already been drunk by someone else, maybe several times over.

if you eat excessive amounts of sugar you get worms and begin to drag your **** on the floor like a rabid dog

The first poster reminded me of something I was told back in college...
Bats and birds fly around freely in the barns that farmers use to dry out their tobacco, pooping everywhere, which is then rolled up in cigarettes. So you're not only getting tobacco and nicotine, but some poop too. Yum.
Not really a food, but you do ingest it.

I have heard that a certain amount of bug parts and rodent hair are allowed to be found in prepackaged food...... the government knows that there is no way to prevent all bug stuff in wheat, rice, whatever. So...... when the food is brought in from the field, then turned into flour, or cookies or whatever, some bug parts will undoubtedly be missed. This supposedly will not harm us.
