Can one be desensitized to the effects of chilli and curry by continued exposure?!

Question: Yes, most definitely. I had a friend who was crazy about Indian food and could eat chillies neat. I am crazy about cooking and was crazy about him, so won him over with my curries. Previously my palate could not tolerate anything beyond a very mild curry. Now I can eat and enjoy a hot one and I have extended my cooking to include Thai and Mexican food.
