Why are blueberries called blueberries and oranges called oranges? Why aren't banana's called yellows!
Answers: And strawberries called redberries
Perhaps the color orange was named after the fruit orange...Orange is the least common color in nature btw.
I'll do some research!
The colour is named after the orange fruit, introduced to Europe via the Indo-European word nāranja. Before this was introduced to the English-speaking world, the colour was referred to (in Old English) as geoluhread, which translates into Modern English as yellow-red.
The first recorded use of orange as a colour name in English was in 1512,[2] in the court of King Henry VIII.
because then apples would have to be called red
Well, if that is not the question of the century? HMMMMMM
because life has to be complicated. all those scientists want to make everything difficult for us :( but your right, it would be so much simpler :]
the same way why we call this number "1" as wAn and not one (with "o" like in "obey" and "e" like in general)
just have fun
Love this one ... wish I had an answer, but this beckoned to my logical heart!! Kudos for a great question!!
Hmmm, what color is rasp (as in raspberries)? Why aren't strawberries straw colored?
Strawberries are named for the fact that they grow on little straws that dangle off of the plant. Bananas cannot be called "yellows," as they come in multiple varieties in addition to the yellow dessert bananas we commonly eat. There are also green bananas, red bananas and purple bananas. Also, there are many more fruits that are also yellow, thus this would cause immense confusion.
I think oranges are called oranges around the world in every language. The name supposedly originated from Sanskrit, and stuck a looooooong time ago. we were simpler folks at one time, and called it as we saw it. :)
