To trick consumers into buying more than they need.
Because consumers don't complain enough! About 20 years ago,one of the big baking companies began selling 8 buns in a package but must have been losing money on this as they weren't available for very long.
So you'll buy three packages of hot dogs and four packages of buns.
Actually, I've seen a lot of 8-bun packages in stores.
Ummm, here, hotdogs come in packages of 10 and buns in packages of 8. Unless you buy the bun length hot dogs, they come 8 to a package.
Maybe because they know that the men of the households are greedy gits and want 2 hotdogs per bun!!!
