Question: My refrigerator is BARE, & I have really nothing to eat. I hope they come today. I think I got the notice last Wednesday. I'm living off of mashed potatoes & oatmeal.

Lone Star Card takes about a week to get. Didn't know the food stamp program was still alive. Go to a local food bank to tide you through. Look in the blue pages of your phone book to find one. The Texas Work Force = a contracted out version of the former Texas Unemployment Commission should be a resource for you to find a job that suits your disability. Should be is the key. Fact is you have to fight for everything. Know many people who fall through the cracks of this poorly administered / backed system. One can't live off disability. Find a sympathetic ear within the system to get the right input. Those judging you ought to take a look at the immigration benefits being handed out here. Little Korea, Vietnam, China town, El Salvador.... Then there is Katrina. Houston supported those folks for over two years. Many of them were on welfare before Katrina. Texas is an 'at will' employer rights state. When Bush first ran for President - how he used that to establish his base of improving our lot - to win this state. Then came 911....

You can afford a computer and the internet but you can't buy your own food. This is why we resent people on food stamps.

I hope they come soon for you, but mashed potatoes and oatmeal isn't too bad to have.....it is something and they both are good for you....and filling.

Unless you are at the public library, how can you even afford to come on here and waste time asking questions? If you have so much spare time, you can probably get a job and buy your own food so that I don't have to do it for you. If you can afford to have a computer and the internet, you can afford to buy food.

If she's at work, why can't she use her work money to buy food?!

People are so quick to judge. How do they know that you're not at work right now and you just happen to have access to the internet. I'm at work right now myself! Anyway, I do hope that they come soon for you. I know there are people out there that abuse the system and those who really need the help can't get it. I hope you're one of the ones that tries to do everything they can but still needs help. I happen to one of those types of people who make too little to be able to have the better things in life, but make too much to qualify for assistance. I'm just thankful for what I can afford and know that there are people far worse off than myself. I have lived off mashed potatoes, ramen noodles, potted meat, and tuna fish. Everynow and then I might be able to afford some real food. Best wishes.

I have no idea since I live in the Midwest, but I am sick of people showing no compassion. You have know idea what this person is going through so why don't you just either answer their question, or don't bother answering at all. We live paycheck to paycheck, even with two incomes. We have 24.00 to get us through last Friday to this Friday, and that includes buying groceries. Yes, we have a computer, and it was earned. It has nothing at all to do with having a computer or not. It has to do with circumstances beyond ones control from time to time. Question Queen, I hope you find your answer from some knowledgeable and kind people. Mashed potatoes and oatmeal is good. Hang in there.
