In most town you can find Wilton Basic Classes you should try this first . You can find them in lots of craft stores too .They will offer a class for beginners then follow through with more classes . When you try it you will know then if it is something you really want to do . It is very time consuming and detailed work . Good Luck hope it works out for you. You can use just a regular butter cream recipe for icing your cake go to Wilton.com for the recipe.
look up cake decorating classes in you area. that'll get your feet wet. and the instructor would be able to answer questions on starting your own business. good luck!
I learned alot of tips working at a bakery. Some of that stuff takes tons of practice. There is a great demand for this kind of work. Good choice and good luck.
check to see if you have a large craft store nearby..many have classes you can take relativly cheap. Also check local colleges for culinary arts...you can just take certain classes and it will be helpful. Last, call any local bakerys tell them what you want to do and see if they will apprentice you..may even earn a bit o cash while learning!! Good luck!

Wilton offers great classes for cake decorating! I have done these, they are a little expensive and you have to bake your cake and ice it at home and take it in every week...but you get to decorate it in class. Mine was in a Micheals store. You get certificates when you finish each course....there are three courses. This will help with basic decorating, then you need to find a cake decorator that will let you study her/him. This way you could pick up on little tips.....like....once your icing is set you can use a paper towel to make designs in the frosting. Each variety of paper towels has different different raised patterns, press these on the icing and you get lovely patterns!
