Is there any difference between regular salt and sea salt?!

Question: Table salt is iodized and is a medicinal benefit to help prevent Rickets in young children as it assists in strengthening young bones.

Sea salt is high in minerals depending on which part of the world it is harvested and evaporated in. It comes in many colours all pale and the flavours are different and so are the size of the crystals.

  • processing of the average table salt and sea salt is what makes them different. I believe all salt is still harvested from the sea, so I can see why this would be so confusing!

I've heard the only difference is taste and texture. That is what i found on the mayo clinic website. But i will tell you my doctor told me to use Sea salt only as it is better for you and less iodine.

    Good luck

regular salt has been processed and iodine has been added to it, also regular salt usually comes from salt mines not the sea, sea salt is collected by evaporating sea water and the salt that is left behind is sea salt, no iodine will be added to sea salt

the only thing i know different is the sea salt is more coarser (fatter) than regular salt..
regular salt is processed i think if I'm not wrong

    taste and texture is right.

We use a sea-salt grinder and we have found it uses bigger pieces but we use MUCH less salt now.

Sea salt is all natural, and has no iodine added to it. It is lower in sodium, so is a good choice for those who are concerned about their blood pressure, but do not like bland food.
Whenever possible, always go with natural alternatives. There is little that comes from nature that is bad for you!

Sea salt has larger crystals and is less processed

Yes....much less sodium in sea salt. It tastes salty without the guilt.

And to you people, I've bought regular salt without Iodine. So don't say regular salt is the one with iodine For you are wrong.

both salts originate from the same sauce the sea the only thing different from each other is that rock salt as it is more commonly called is mined.
this rock salt used to be under the sea but as the sea evaporated it left behind the salt much in the way sea salt is made today however the salt became covered over by small crustacia that formed limestone and over the milenia more and more soils and rocks covered the salt and compressed it so it formed rocks.
this is what we get our salt that has been mined for .
now sea salt is formed / made by evaporating sea water and you can do this using two methods first method some say is the best and that you allow sea water to go into what are called salt beds.
and allow the water to evaporate through the heat of the sun thus giving a coarser softer texture the second is by heating the seawater up and evaporating the water as steam thus giving a finer but firmer texture.
as for the sodium content the bit that is bad for you so sorry there is no difference .
yes probably got a higher mineral content and i think sea salt tastes nicer but Alla's the sodium levels the same
