Organic baby food?!

Question: What is your opinion on it? I honestly agree and disagree with it..The reason i disagree is b/c to be able to build up a good immune system you need to be exposed to whats in everyday food already. This way the chances of allergies are less...I agree b/c there's less chemicals that aren't good for growing baby.. You don't have to agree with me..I'd just liek to hear peoples thoughts on teh subject.

I don't have much of an opinion generally as organic food was all we had 60 years ago and now we have to pay a lot extra money to buy food according to organic guidelines, and they seem to vary quite a bit.

You specifically mention Organic baby food. My home page is the newspaper, front page, and mid week last week the news was that a major baby food manufacturer had withdrawn 4 lines of Organic baby food with expiry dates of mid 2008 because they were rancid. I, of course, checked with my daughter in law who has one child that still has an occasional jar of baby food but she doesn't use the organic line. However, I wonder how many young mothers out there are not aware of that news flash. I've been reading the paper every day and there has never been another word printed that I can find and I can't remember the name of the manufacturer.

Thank you for your response. It's not the first time that "hot" news has disappeared. A lot of pressure brought to bear on that news item. Report It

  • I live in a town were about 80 % of the people are growing and buying organic products. About 50 % of those people are vegetarians or vegans. ....I am not any of them and I buy what I can buy in Vons, Ralphs, Trader joe's .... I am never sick, my kids are never sick but all the others always have somekind of illness to deal with. So....that only tells me...I was always right.........organic...vegetarian...veg... don't have an immune system. And if you raise your children like this from the beginning, they will naver have a chance to build one. We had all kinds of children diseases (well I am older) we ate evrything that was presented to us, we shared stuff with our friends.......but it did not kill us, it made us stronger. I never really get sick besides a cold once a year and my children either.

That's just my opinion taken from my experiences.

    .

Organic foods are grown or raised without pesticides or hormones involved. None of these things help or destroy our immune system. Being exposed to germs helps our immune system grow. Eating organic limits our exposure to antibiotics that are given to some animals and the thinking is this will also help our immune system to grow. I had my kids back in the early 70's and did not buy baby food at all. I was a part of a back to nature thing that was going on then and we nursed our babies and fed them home prepared foods using a baby food grinder so I could control the quality, and preservatives in my childrens foods. It was also cheap to feed them that way. I have 10 grand kids now and my daughters used the same kind of grinder too but with moms working more now, baby food is a convenience that they have chosen when needed. I have tasted some of the organic baby food one of my daughters bought. The dog didn't like it either!LOL
