POLL: this is a bit stupid for an almost 40 year old to be asking. i went to get myself a sandwich and...?!
how many people actually eat the end pieces of a loaf of bread?
why for the people that dont eat them , like myself, why dont we eat the end pieces? afterall its still bread!
Answers: i always grab the piece of bread that is past that end piece if i dont end up throwing that to the dog. i was thinking to myself those end pieces should be thinner as to not waste as much of the bread. & my 2 questions are:
how many people actually eat the end pieces of a loaf of bread?
why for the people that dont eat them , like myself, why dont we eat the end pieces? afterall its still bread!
I love this question!!!! I was making myself a sandwich about an hour ago & was thinking about the same thing!!!! There were only 4 peices left in the bag: 2 center peices & the 2 ends. I took the 2 centers & gave the 2 end peices to my dogs. Ive always wondered why they even put the ends in the bag?? I don't know anyone, other than my mother (who will eat anything!), that eats them. I say they sell loaves without the ends, I mean, you ARE paying for them!! I guess I just don't like them because they just don't taste good & they're too flimsy to hold up a sandwich. I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only person that has thought about this.
I eat the heels. An alternative to eating the ends is making bread crumbs. You can save up a bunch of heels and freeze them and when you get enough, you can make bread crumbs. Then you could make onion rings or something.
FYI: The heels aren't thinner because they have a machine that slices the bread.
my husband eats the heels as i will myself (if they're the only slices left). usually i dry them them out and smash them into bread crumbs to use at a later date.
I like the end pieces.
The ends are good toasted, help to hold stuffing in chicken, and keep the bread from drying out.
I love them! It's the best part of the bread!
I eat the end piece, I just turn it around with the uncut side facing the middle of the sandwich and make grilled cheese sandwiches with them! I also dry them and throw them in the blender for bread crumbs. Or you can make croutons with them.
Neither myself nor anyone in my family eats the heels on sandwich bread. It always goes in the trash, except for the occasional times when one of us might go out to feed birds or fish somewhere.
I don't care for them because the heel is thinner, unevenly shaped, and lacks the texture I want on a sandwich. That part also crisps too much when you try to toast it, so it's no good for that either.
After reading the other answers here though, I think I will start saving them and using them as bread crumbs. It'll be less wasteful.
i hate the end pieces! i usually leave it in the bag so it does't dry out the next slice
i believe it's because it looks different than the other pieces. because it has a "crust" covering one side, it also tastes a bit different.
(1) I eat the end pieces of a loaf bread. It is still "bread" and as such tastes the same except that (obviously) it's not as soft.
(2) Some (or many) people don't eat the end pieces because they are "hard" or tough to chew (?). Likewise, other people don't even eat the four crusty sides of the loaf bread probably because of the same reason. Weird.
I just don't like them.
i eat the heels.
its because its a different taste
it tastes darker.
because when it was cooked the ends got darker.
i use to not eat them when i was little but now im not picky xD
ur right, this IS a stupid question..................
