I know in Alaska your prices would probably be more expensive, obviously. However, it's your prepackaged stuff which is bumping up your cost - skip the brandname spices and buy no name, combine your own spices to make the seasoning salt. Crystal light is a pure waste of money, and unhealthy to boot. I'm assuming the Lipton raspberry is the iced tea (12 cans?) - that's crazy to pay that much - buy some drink mix and add the water yourself. Don't buy pre-cut and/or pre-seasoned wings, buy whole chickens and piece them out yourselves.
I'm guessing the jerky is for survival! And I know you can't skimp on the fresh foods - they cost what they cost.
Even if you are alone, it doesn't mean that you can't eat well!
Yes, this is very pricey for my own personal spending. I noticed the hot wings being outrageously expensive! $25.05?! Johnny's season salt...$12.35!? whew. I'm on my way to the grocery store in a little bit, usually I try not to spend over $100. It's usually just stuff for me and my boyfriend.
I don't know anything about Alaska's prices, but some of these items I think are kind of pricey, such as the Siera Mist, Chunky Soup, Crystal Light. And, some of these prices are pretty close to what I would get charged here in North Carolina, such as the potatoes, onions, gravy, magazine. There is nothing on there that I would really call a great price - maybe the cup o'noodles.
Yeah it is very pricey, I wouldn't blame it all on the prices though. Start cutting your own carrots, maybe invest in a dehidrator for your jerky, Make your own hot wings and even your own gravy. That would cut back on it significantly.
Alaska and Hawaii have the most impossibly high prices. What can save you is to buy spices only, not blends, instead of garlic SALT, buy garlic powder. It is the same price for equal size bottle where I live and salt is cheap and a filler! Buy raw, unprocessed foods, that you can make your self...soups...that is a no brainer. Home made is better, you control the salt and additives and is so much cheaper. Forget things like soda, drink tea and water. You bought no milk? Buy the big carrots and save beaucoup bucks topping them and peeling them yourself. Gravy is only a little pan drippings or butter and flour with milk or even water!
You did not say if you are living there...Thank God for the lower 48s low prices when you get home if you are just visiting.
wow.. i live in houston, tx. and that's what we pay for a family of four. geez.. that is very expensive.
The prices are high for the "lower 48", but probably not Alaska. However, you're eating a lot of processed (and low nutrition) items and they always cost more.
