Is kids cereal a good breakfast?!
Answers: for kids and adults
Not really - most kids cereals are full of sugar and salt.
Shredded Wheat is a good one - it contains no additives, sugar or salt, so you can control how much sugar you add, if any.
Porridge is the best..
Check sugar and salt content - many are really high, so on balance, no.
it depends on the cereal
Yep, for active people.
Lots of sugar, hence for kids who are more active (generally)
IF YOU STICK TO THE PLAIN CEREALS NOT THE SUGARY ONES, YOU CANT GO WRONG, BUT I DO THINK PORRIDGE IS THE BEST
Sure is, as long as it isn't sugar coated with artificial colours!!
It's only to be part of a complete breakfast. Alone, no way, there isn't enough of anything in there to say it's worth anything. The only high counts are sugars and salts. Also, if you use skim milk or 2% milk, instead of whole milk it'll lower the fat calories. Kid's cereal should never substitute for a breafast alone, for kids or adults.
It depends on how realistic you are! Some are very high in sugar and salt, and that's never a good thing. But on the other hand, breakfast is really important and I would rather my children had something rather than nothing. You can try getting them to eat a healthy cereal - and there are some about - or, perhaps mixing: half of their favourite cereal, half of something a little healthier. And if that fails, just try to be really careful about their salt and sugar content in other foods. You could try wholemeal toast every other day, porridge, or even a grilled cooked breakfast once a week if you have the time.
Everything should be about balance and to have a healthy attitude is as important as a healthy body. As long as their diet is mixed, with as much fruit and veg as possible, and they are eating breakfast (which cuts down on snacking) then I wouldn't worry too much...
No not really - the ones that are heavily marketed are the highest in sugar & salt.
I am really lucky as all my kids have never brought into the crappy adverts on the TV so they eat simple cereal.
My 4 year old in the winter loves porridge followed by a slice of toast or he will eat 2 or 3 weetabix- the 7 year old will have Shreddies or cheerios - the 11 year old eats good old cornflakes - and the 16 year old will have mini shredded wheat or cheerios.
My hubby & I eat weetabix or porridge!
I love Capt. Crunch! It is soooooooo good!
Boxed cereals are full of sugar, no I don't think it is good for kids
A scrambled egg a piece of fruit is a good way to start the day.
the plain ones (corn flakes, rice crispies) are great stuff or alternatively some fruit and fibre, but the sugared kind are usually chock full of sugar. Much more than kids daily requirments
NO!!! Stick to a whole foods diet. Processed food is junk!
