Steak getting a green-brown color?!
Is the steak going bad, or is this harmless?
I think I've seen ground beef do this before, and was told it's simply oxidation (which is why stored add fake red color to ground beef sometimes).
Answers: We have a steak in our fridge that we bought last Sunday night (1/27). It has a sell-by date of 1/31 (yesterday). So, it should definitely still be good, according to the date. However, it's starting to acquire a brownish-green color.

It sounds like oxidation, like if you leave hambuger out for a bit it starts to go brown but it's completely harmless. As for the green, idk, if it smells ok it should be fine.
That definitely sounds bad, smell the steak before cooking it, if it smells funky I would toss it, how much of the steak is green/brown, if its just a little bit I wouldn't worry about it.
Sometimes the fats and acids in the meat give it a shiny green hue when it is closely examined. It is still safe to eat. Also, discoloration may occur because the meat is lacking oxogen. Open up the package and let the meat sit for a few min. It will turn redder because the oxogen in the air reacts to the blood in the meat.
If youre still not sure, smell it. If it smells bad, toss it. Beef really shouldnt have a smell to it.
Play safe -- throw it .
you can know food is good or not by :
1. Smell
2. Color
3. Appearance
Stay healthy !!
If in doubt, throw it out!
better safe then sorry
green? i wouldn't eat it.
havent seen a green meat cow that was healthy... ever
seasoned meats stay fresher longer in the frig..
try seasoning the meat with some salt and it will stay fresher longer.
YUCK!!I sure as heck wouldnt eat it. Or feed it to my dog!
