I thought I heard once that anything dug out of the ground is a vegetable and anything that is picked off a plant is a fruit

Tomatoes are counted as fruits though they are used for more savory dishes and are sometimes counted as vegetables, but they have seeds in them. Avacados are fruits as well, along with certain peppers. cucumbers, but the rest are all seeds and vegetables, except for the pumpkins those are squashes and i guess they could be counted as fruits.

celery - vegetable.
tomatoes - fruit.
cucumbers - vegetable
squashes and zucchini - fruit
avocados - fruit
green, red, and yellow peppers - vegetables
peapods - vegetables
pumpkins - fruit
nuts - they are nuts. not a fruit or vegetable.
carrots - vegetable.
