Is it bad if I accidentally ate some moldy bread?!

Question: I made sandwiches for my son and I...at the last bite I noticed a wierd taste and saw mold. Am I or my son going to be sick? And how am I supposed to keep my bread from molding? It was in the fridge and only for a week!

You will be okay. I have had that happen and lived to talk about it. Didn't even get sick. The bread should have lasted longer than a week in the fridge - who knows, maybe it was old when you got it. You can freeze bread and take out only 1-2 slices at a time. They thaw really quickly. But bread kind of dries out if you freeze it for more than a couple of weeks.

Nah. Just think of it this way...penicillin was discovered by using moldy bread! And that is what they give you when you get sick!!!!

Long as you arent' allergic to pencillin you should be fine. Mold is only a type of this, and will go through your system and won't matter. Remember there is mold on cheese and they just cut if off, before selling it to you! You'll be alright promise.

You'll be OK. Did you have it wrapped tightly? It could have been on the grocery shelf longer than you thought or have a little hole in the bag. I hate when that happens!

If you keep the bread outside of the fridge, it lasts longer, lik ein a pantry of some sort or just laying on the counter.

You shouldnt get sick, its just disgusting. :]

No! The worst you may get is a stomach ache. Look for the expirary date. You can't keep store bought bread from molding. It contains liquid sugar and yeast making the shelf life short.

No you and your Son will be fine. I freeze my bread, 15-20 sec in microwave thaws it!

you should be ok .
with all the additives you get in bread these days it tends to go mouldy long before going stale and in the past when bread went stale you would use it in bread and butter puddings and bread crumbs but now they go mouldy first

The green mould is penicillium and won't be harmful.
Mucor or pin mould makes things taste odd, and best to cut below the mould when you remove it to get rid of the "roots" mycillium.
I would be unable to count the number of times I've eaten bread which has had mould cut off it or just stuck in the toaster to kill the mould.
We never had sell-by or use by dates during the War.
Us pre-war babies were fortunate in being born with 3 vital senses - smell, sight and taste. If it looks OK, if it smells OK and tastes OK, it's OK.

Well kind of because some mold is penicillin.
