What do you think? would be better if the healthy foods were cheap and the junk food was more expensive?!

Question: ok the weight problem is growing and so is food costs ...and insurance is a big political issue right now . Think about it a candy bar is cheaper then a protein bar, what about buying fresh fruit or is the closest you get grape jelly. just curious as to what people think

i agree. maybe weight wouldnt be such an issue if people could get the healthy food at better prices. and it makes sense that people buy the junk instead of the healthy stuff because you get more for your money. also, y is it that the food that has all the processing (ie, has more money put into it) is cheaper than something with minimal processing?
something aint right there!

I buy whatever is more natural.

The costs will even out -- The way I think of it is you're better off spending a little more on foods that are better for you. The money you save while buying bad foods will be going towards medical bills in the future anyway.

Good point there but it wont make a difference people are willing to spend lots of money on junk food these days.

honestly, i will buy what i like no matter what the cost. in fact, they could make chocolate illegal, and i would still buy it...lol

I don't think it's expense - fruit and veggies are less expensive than candy, chips and processed foods.

It comes down to convenience.
Processed foods you heat in a microwave a few seconds and you're done... while eating healthy implies more work.

Also, I would never believe a protein bar would be categorized as healthy.

Edit...
I guess I'm saying I disagree with you. If you look at the people that are overweight, why are they overweight? Why are they eating junk food versus healthier food? The answer is convenience. I still contend that eating healthy is less expensive than eating junk no matter how far you ship. Junk food and pseudo-healthy food (all advertising gimmicks and marketing) is also shipped.

I'll reiterate. No way a protein bar can be considered healthy. In general, the more processed a food is the less healthy it is. Protein bars are on the top of the heap when it comes to processing.

I think it would help if the healthy stuff was cheaper. and the junk food was more expensive. but then you would still have people blowing their money to get junk

i agree with you

Actually with proper planning and budgeting healthy foods are about the same as junk food.

Fresh fruits and veggies are very cheap. Also, things such as beans, grains, pastas etc. are very cheap if bought in bulk.

I stock up on dry goods (beans, pastas etc.) and then I just buy fresh fruits and veggies and then I buy some chicken and turkey along the way and I end up eating great and very healthy at a good price.

It just takes some work/planning on your part is all.

definetely
