Hot dog ingredients!?!
Thanks in advance for any information.
Answers: I used to love hotdogs, untill i recently read the back of the jar. What exactly is mechanically recovered meat ? It sounds nasty, is there any hotdogs that arnt made of that? Are the ones in the cinema made of it ?
Thanks in advance for any information.
"Mechanically Separated Meat" is simply meat that is removed from the bone by a machine as opposed to being done by a human being. Nothing disgusting at all. And as for as what meats are used, it's meat - not eyeballs, hoofs, lips or the other end.
Here, read up on the truth about hot dogs and find out where all of the paranoia comes from. These are some pretty informative pages.
skin, bones & fat and a little of the cr*p meat which is unsaleable
I know its gross. That's why I no longer eat hot dogs.
The leftovers that are scraped from the floor! Buy some good quality at least 80% meat sausages from your butcher!
Gross!
Hot dogs are gross! I think mechanically recovered means that robots go into the slaughter house and pick up all the gross parts like buttholes, hoves, noses, etc for being chopped up.
You could try veggie hot dogs? Or just eat them and say wtf ever!
It basicaly means its the left over scrap meat gounded up and pressed into a hot dog. Buy all beef or all natural hot dogs they are better for you but still not great. Yes teh ones at the movies are probably crap too.
This is the same meat fast food resturants use in their food products too, its all fda approved.
All hot dogs are made the same way and they all are NASTY!
OH please, it is just the scraps and I'm not talking face and eyeballs as some will say. Really, if you're eating a hot dog and you enjoy them, why read the label? But really it is NOT as bad as you think especially if you buy all beef dogs.
Hebrew National is a good brand and so is Nathans....Look for it to say 100% real beef.....
i've never seen hotdogs in a jar????
but i have read about them in consumer reports magazine and............................ i don't eat them much anymore!!!! :)
Hotdogs and bologna are made from the parts of the animal that aren't worth anything and can't be sold individualy. So they mash it up and BAM! You get a tasty hotdog.
If you think that's nasty, you should read up on what some of the ingredients in the other foods you eat really are. You'd be surprised.
It means that they grind everything together. Eyes, feet, toes etc. Yes there are real hotdogs made with real meat. I believe Shcneider makes them. No do not eat the ones at the cinema or any fast food restaurants.
sun - dried dogs
hot dogs are made of scraps, bits, and pieces of this and that .... I think this is true across the board .... the problem with them is that they have so much preservative in them... original hot dogs came from Vienna and were called Wieners ("Wien" is the Austrian German word for Vienna), and if you see a little can of short sausages called Vienna Sausages, that is what they are ... just canned hot dogs, great for camping trips if you can stand the salt and the preserved food
You might consider getting wursts and wieners from a German butcher ...they are usually fresher than hot dogs for the supermarket trade and are quite different and very good...... or you might like fresh Italian sausages ~ both the regular and hot kind ~ which are used in lasagna; they have them in supermarkets.. .... and (back to preservatives) Polish kielbasa which is really garlicky and quite good, unfortunately for those of us who like pure food
x
it means that it's fake X_X
after all the beef and pieces of meat have been cut out, the bones are put in a machine that removes all remaining tissue from the bones, this is mechanically recovered meat and looks like a red slur.
this is mixed with toungue, stomach, ears, chins etc from a lot of different pigs in a grinder. then sugar and a lot of different spices are added to hide the otherwise grotesque taste.
they are made from bone scrapeings and odd bits and pieces. they also contain cereal . there isnt much in a hot dog that is appetising so if you like them its best not to know what they're made of.
First -
IF it is made from the nasty bits why are 'all beef' nasty bits better than the other?
The Kosher dogs are probably a good idea.
No one is going to process and sell something inedible like bone, cartilage, hair etc.
I do believe too it is meat scraps too small to be made into cuts for sale - probably same as hamburger.
People who wont eat hotdogs should look into how some other things are made such as gelatin, marshmallows, ice cream. Water that has had the sewage removed and cleaned. And that bottled water you are drinking is not exempt.
in hot dogs goes belly fat pigs trotters snout what ever is the cheapest meat with a little good meat, though it aint too bad trotters used to be a delicasy in UK amongst the poor,
A little bit of every meat you can think of, and some of the sweepings from the abbatoir floor too probably!
its mingin you really dont want to know al never eat another hot dog again
mrm is old bones from chickens! i watched jamie oliver, the chicken and the egg about three weeks ago and havent had a hotdog or an egg since!! mrm is disgusting you should see how its made!!!!! you would never touch one again!
