Why does this happen when I eat Pretzels?!

Question: Ok, this is kind of weird but I want to see if anyone might know why this occurs. Every time I'd eat a pretzel my mouth would water up instantly. Like, I'd instantly have a huge build up of weird tasting saliva in my mouth and I'd have to spit it out in large portions. This never happens with any other food, but every time I'd eat a pretzel this would happen. Why is this? Does it have something to do with the salt or something?

dude! Ive had this too! it feels like you're about to throw up, right! I have no idea. But, my best guess is that all of the salt at once excites your salvary glands and causes them to produce more saliva...but i dunno haha

Prob the salt - Go BUCKEYES!

I think you might be having a allergic reaction to one of the ingredients of the pretzel and your body is reacting to it.

Maybe the salt.. Or maybe it is because you like them a lot? Or the smell. Or you are hungry. There could be a lot of reasons. I think it might be the salt because when I was little the same thing happened to me when I hate McD's fries.

maybe has something to do with the sodium content

Yes it is the salt, my gums normally go all funny when i eat pretzels. Try and find some with lower salt content also known as low sodium.

its the salt.

=]

try a couple different brands and if it keeps happening maybe your slightly alergic

It's probably the salt, because salt makes you very thristy!! lol =]]
