Health and Saftey fears stop Pancake race! Well I ask you?!

Question: Six hundred years of tradition have been been tossed aside as organisers cancelled a pancake race in Yorkshire.

The Shrove Tuesday race in Ripon usually attracts hundreds of people to watch local schools and businesses tossing pancakes through the city's cobbled streets.

But this year, organisers have called a halt to the race because of the time and costs involved in having to put the necessary precautions and regulations in place.

Oh God here we go again, the PC Brigade are mounted on their collective high horse once more to wreck the perfectly harmless activities of us lesser mortals. I ask you- a street race which has probably gone on since time immemorial and more likely than not, without any injury whatsoever except a blister or two on the feet.
It's a flippin outrage that these namby pamby do-gooders are allowed to get off with such petty vindictiveness, they must be wanting for a decent life or something and the depths of their pettiness sink further by the day.

BAN IDIOTS

What a shame!!! The Running of the Bulls continues, but pancakes are too dangerous.

Oh my god, it does your head in!

What a bunch of tossers! (pun intended lol)

At some point the people may wake up and do something rather than just letting the government sleepwalk them through their lives.

Until that day arrives, I'm going to keep on living abroad and looking back rather sadly at what is left of my country and its heritage.

For anyone else who laments the passing of"Great" Britain, another sad story: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/2008020...

maybe they were frightened that my pancakes would be used. That would be a major safety issue. I reckon if thrown properly you could decapitate someone with one of my creations!

Just about sums this Country up.....All PC.and Health and Safety.make you wonder how we all survive?

What a load of boll*&$@!!

you cant do anything these days!

health and safety combined with the no win no fee lawyers and some stupid laws, are killing this country, can nobody stop this insane situation ?

Party poopers all of them, what next kids going to school wrapped in cotton wool

Pity. Some people have no sense of fun.
May their Lents be long and difficult.

stupid precautions..... we can't do anything nowadays

It's a sign of the times I'm afraid. We've descended into this compensation culture whereby noone takes responsibility for their own actions and adverts proliferate proclaiming "where there's blame, there's a claim".
And life is all the poorer for it.

Spoil sports again you cant bet the PC brigade to mess things up.
