Please give ideas for picky eater?!

Question: My 5 year old grandson exists on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cereal and milk. He will eat a McDonalds happy meal and sometimes nibbles on sliced apples. Do you have any ideas on getting him to eat the family meals? He would rather go hungry than eat a regular meal and is very skinny.

Everybody likes smiley face pancakes. Make him pancakes, and then supply him with all the sides to make the face...like fruit and such.

Also, I LOVE the idea of the cookbook. My little brother used to be very picky, but we bought him a cookbook, and now he wants to be a chef!

So yeah, get him some fun kids cookbooks (make sure there are pictures) and let him go through and pick what he wants to make. Then make it together!

Keep introducing him to new foods and let him go a little hungry...he'll HAVE to eat something sooner or later!

Honestly, you'll have to experiment with him; that's how you'll find his likes, and dislikes. Get a children's cookbook, and let him pick things out to try. It will be fun for the both of you..

Try a thick vegetable soup, and add a few extra vegetables.

Fry a couple of eggs in a pan so the yolks are the eyes, and add other things to make a smiley face.

Make him a simple meal of, say, a cheese and ham sandwhich. If he refuses to eat it, put it back in the fridge. If he complains about being hungry, take it out again. HE may cry, but you'll get him introduced to foods that he would have never thought of trying before.

Get him involved in the cooking.
Make pizzas with him offering healthy option toppings.
Make chicken nuggets / burgers from fresh mince and get him to help.
Take him to the supermarket and let him see the wide range of foods available.
Children who have a good interest in food often eat well!

he will eventually eat . good nutritious meals is what he needs at this most important age , his choice of eating habits is at stake also . how many kids do you see eat junk all the time ? it may be hard at first but it will be worth the effort . you may consider asking a drive thru clerk for a few happy meal bags { give em $5 } , if you can make something similiar to what looks like it he may eventually fall for it

try colouring food s such as green eggs and ham!i tried it with my s and s whos 5 she had red pears and green panccakes simply just add some food colouring

or u coulsd do hypnotizing which would be ur last option!!!!!!!!!

I agree with getting him involved! kids love cooking with you and they're overly eager to eat what they make and see how it tastes. It's also a great idea to make food fun. Int eh preschool i worked in we would cut up vegetables into strips then give the kids a small spinach tortilla. We would spread some cream cheese on it and have them make a monster face. Even the pickiest "Ew i can't eat that! It's green!" kind of kids ate theirs. It was fun for them and nice to see how much fun they were having.

Just stop caving in to him and giving him what he wants. I understand that you're concerned about his weight and his health, but if you stop giving in to him, he'll eventually get hungry enough to eat what's available.

try to involve him in the planning of a meal...ask his what he wants for supper that night, you could look through a cookbook with pictures to give him ideas....take him shopping for the ingredients, let him help with simple cooking, and make sure to tell everyone that he helped.....
does he like spaghetti?(i don't know any child that doesn't) you could puree veggies to add to the sauce so he gets some nutrients....
and remember, your grandson won't starve himself, you could putt your foot down and only offer him what every one else is eating, if he doesn't eat it right away, put it in the fridge until he's ready too eat it and DON'T offer him anything else to eat until he eats what hes suppost to....he will get hungry and eventually eat it.

skinny,, that don't matter..
Talk with your pediatrician..
fix your standard meals,, cut back on the goodies he likes,,, cook everyday meals,, and just explain sorry,, you just sit there,, maybe god will fix it for you..
Sorry I had two brothers that tried to play that game..
Older bro has passed all the problems over weight diabetes's heart failure cancer,,... skinny bro is now a 250lb couch potato..
Sorry just skinny means nothing..just self indulgent and spoiled..and you allow it..
PS:: there is a child development category,,, this has nothing to do with food & drink..
