Answers: Any helpful hints?
My mom makes some good goulosh
she just browns some beef with onions
adds
corn
green beans
tomato paste
tomato soup
salt
pepper
elbow noodles
strain if is too juicy
Its pretty good she might add some more stuff but mostly i think its just whatever is in your cabbord!!
From http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/26...
2 pounds beef chuck
1 teaspoon salt
2 onions, white or yellow
2 tablespoons lard or shortening
2 tablespoons imported sweet paprika (most important to use real Hungarian paprika for ultimate flavor)
2 bay leaves
1 Qt. water
4 peeled and diced potatoes
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cut beef into 1 inch squares, add 1/2 tsp. salt. Chop onions and brown in shortening, add beef and paprika. Let beef simmer in its own juice along with salt and paprika for 1 hr. on low heat. Add bay leaves, water, diced potatoes, black pepper, and remaining salt. Cover and simmer until potatoes are done and meat is tender.
I think goulosh is traditional to each individual family. Our goulosh is made with:
Hamburg
onions & garlic
1 can baked beans
1 can creamed corn
1 can corn
sugar/brown sugar
1/2 c. ketchup
Saute onions in skillet. Brown hamburg with onions. Add garlic. Add beans, corn, sugar, and ketchup. Simmer for 20 minutes.
