of course. the flavor comes from a bean, like many spices. It's like asking if white is a color

plain ice cream and i never buy it cos i am a chocoholic and always but chocolate ice cream

If it was plain it would be called plain-not vanilla.
like yogurt they have plain yogurt and then in the flavors one of them is vannilla--i dont use anything to spruce it up because if i buy it i get Vanilla Bean, it has a way better taste then regular vanilla in my opinion--i guess you have seen they also have Golden Vanilla--and to me that really dont taste much different from regular----if i do eat regular vanilla i put chocolate syrup on it-the hersheys one that comes in a can--yummy!!

theres a few types of vanilla to my knowledge.. regular or "plain" vanilla, and french vanilla.

the vanilla is an added flavor to the ice cream.. else.. you would just have normal cream thats been frozen. think of what redi-whip or miracle whip tastes like. - that's what you'd have ;)
