What happens when you eat a bay leaf?!
Is that true and if you do what harm does it do?
Just curious.

Well, they do not contnain alkaloids (toxins) like tomatos do (not enought to hurt you, unless you are highly sensative to alkaloids).
The reason why children should not eat bay LEAVES is because bay leaves are very strong, and do not wilt after cooking. these sharp edges can slice weak stomach linings, your gastrointesinal system, and weak, teething gums.
thus children should not eat whole, or chunks big enough to easily hold between your two fingers.
Otherwise, its a great source of antioxidants.
I think that it easily gets stuck in your throat and can cause you to choke.
nothing besides taste nasty. Some recipes want you to grind it.
if you do eat it, it won't taste that great, but if you put it in a stock or sauce it helps the taste so much
First you start to feel dizzy and then your pulse gets weak your pupils dilate. and then you bleed out and your arms and legs fall off.
Sweet Bay Trees yield edible leaves...other laurel/bay tree varieties are actually poisonous.
'Sweet' bay leaves (powdered or crumbled) are pretty much safe to eat; long, slow soups & stews allow the whole bay leaf to release its flavor. Whole leaves are taken out of dishes before serving because their texture can be unpalatable and they can be difficult to digest, plus there's a choking hazard with the whole leaf; if they're crumbled or powdered, you don't have that problem.
There are several edible varieties of sweet bay around the world… with slightly different types of trees abundant in Indonesia, India, the Mediterranean and California.
**i once bit into a piece by accident, and that freakin' leaf was NASTY-dry and stiff with sharp edges-blech**
In six weeks you will start to feel a tickle inside your left ear. This means that the Bay Laurel tree has successfully planted itself inside you. Within another week, you will see the shoots come out of your ear. Don't be alarmed in a month or so, if you stand still, you will have very effective camoflauge in any woodslike setting. Good Luck and hang a red ribbon on yourself during deer season to avoid harm.
