Can I freeze fruit?!

Question: I just bought about $50 of fresh fruit for my grandma's 77th birthday party. We are trying to do healthier stuff because she is on a diet (she's going to Hawaii next month, apparently she wants to meet some hot guys, haha). Anyway, her party was supposed to be tonight, but she was on a tour with the MSU Blue Line Club (hockey) and their tour was not able to get back to town tonight because the highways in my area are closed because of crappy weather. We've postponed the party until next weekend. I just need to know if I can freeze the fruit, or if I'm out of $50. I've got pears, papaya, pineapple, grapes, watermelon, blueberries, and raspberries. Can any of these be frozen, and if so HOW can I do it so that they turn out when I thaw them?

Freezing will reduce the quality.

You could eat them and be healthier yourself then buy fresh for Gran, or you could put them in the fridge.

The pineapple, unless very ripe could sit out.

Blueberries and raspberries don't have a long shelf life and lets face it, frozen is NAG (not as good).

Depending upon the ripeness of the papaya it could sit out too. It is soft when ripe, kinda like an avocado.

If you freeze them about the only thing they will be good for is a smoothie, something baked, or a sorbet.

Watermelon should be fine in the fridge.

yes you can.... when you do, it gets like a really good slush.. apples and grapes taste the best frozen though

Yes, just be aware that it has to defrost by putting it into the fridge when you want to eat it.

why not refrigerate them?

You can put them in the refrigerator.
ive never tried the freezer though, but, you neva no till u try!
:)

refrigerate it, but don't freeze it. that usually works

I know that it CAN be frozen, but it has to be ripe when you do it.

Here's a website with a guide on how to do it.
You have to have freezer bags, though.

they won't be very good if you freeze them, but it's not a waste, eat them yourself!

yes you can but you should place the lefted over fruits in a zippers plastics bag to keep them fresh all time .

Yes you can freeze any fruit. Do not freeze for more than one month or they will get freezer burn. ALSO PUT EACH FRUIT IN A ZIPLOCK TYPE BAG TO PREVENT FREEZER BURN.

yes you can but the fruit will take up a lot of room. the reason why it would be able to freeze is because fruit has water in it.

Refrigerate the grapes and berries. The watermelon, pears, and uncut pineapple should be okay in the fridge. I'm not sure about papaya.

um yeah...ever heard of frozen strawberries and blueberries?

There's nothing like fresh fruit! It was VERY sweet of you to get all that fruit with your Grandma in mind, I'm sure she's very grateful. I suggest you make yourself a big fruit salad and start eating. Give some away to friends and freeze the blueberries and raspberries for smoothies, yogurt or cereal. Maybe have your own party and serve the fruit with a fruit dip. Maybe someone else in the family can help you out with buying the fruit next time. Good Luck! =)

yeah. They should turn out fine if thawed. But make sure you thaw them slowly.
