Water is essential to the good functioning of the human body. We are 80% water. Not just the obvious, kidneys, skin and general detox, plus reducing constipation, but dehydration can aggravate any number of conditions, from back and joint problems to high blood pressure.

The general rule is to drink 1/2 oz per pound of body weight, more if exercising heavily or in the heat.

Water intoxication deaths are rare, but they have happened. This happens when someone is exercising heavily in the heat and losing electrolytes (salts/potassium and other minerals) through sweating and just drinks huge amounts of plain water without eating anything or drinking an electrolyte solution (such as Gatorade). the resulting mineral imbalance can cause the heart muscle to cramp up and thus heart failure. So if you are hiking, or running a marathon, you should occasionally drink some sports drinks and have regular snacks.

edit: Jenny, when you start ramping up your water intake (or doing a detox diet) you may find your skin problems getting worse in the beginning because your body is releasing toxins through the skin. Keep up the water intake and cut out fatty and junk foods, I guarantee your skin will improve.

makes you pee alot

well if you are sick then it helps the swelling go down and if you drink like a gallon of it in one sitting you can get terribly sick

Good for the skin
Yes, it can kill you if you seriously OD
The body uses water to metabolize fat
It helps to make you feel full
Ice water burns more cals because your body then tries to warm itself

You can get a kinda high from drinking to much water FACT.
You can turn into a fish MAYBE

We as humans are approximately 80% water. I drink about 4 or 5 pints a day, not because of what it alledgedly does, but because I find it's the best drink to quench your thirst!!!

It is good for kidneys and skin, just don't overdo it. Don't drink tap water though, chlorine and flouride are nasty!

Yes too much can kill you but too much is really WAYYY too much... like many many gallons in a short amount of time. People have died from too much water but it's really rare. It's obviously good for you body as it keeps your kidney's and such working properly. For me it's a necessity when pregnant... If i don't drink enough water, I get sick. End of sentence. My body just needs more when I'm pregnant. It's been true for both pregnancies so far.

Helps you lose weight by speeding up your metabolism
Clears up your skin
Hydrates your body
Reduces headaches

All of these have been true for me.

the more water you drink the less food cravings you have [fact] this should be about 2 litres a day

I heard It flushes you system helping digestion. Thus making you healthier.

it is good for you because you will flush your system each day especially your kidneys

Water is kind of a natural cleanser and it helps flush out your system. It also helps you have healthier skin (like you said). Too much water CAN kill you but only if you drink it really fast and a lot of it. There was a kid who drank like over a gallon in 5 min or something crazy like that and he died. But if your not doing that then water is really good for you.

I drink a gallon of water a day, spread out over the entire 24 hours. Using that method and just watching the quanity that I eat, and cutting out extra starch and sugars, I lost 52 pounds.....no weekly meetings, no special FedEx delivered food, just a gallon of water a day and lots of common sense.

It makes you pee alot. It didn't clear up my skin either. I drank 8 glasses a day for about a month and my skin actually got worse and I needed to pee all the time and I was never hungry.
You might have heard about Leah Betts, she took some Ecstacy and she felt dehydrated and drank loads of water, but it wasn't leaving her body so she died. But she drank LOADS, so I don't think there is a big risk of it happening to anyone else.

-the more water you drink the less water you retain
-leads to healthier looking skin

water is th source of life, FACT, its very healthy and we need it to keep us functioning and staying healthy, BUT drinking way to much can kill you, but u really need to drink alot of it and i mean alot! water not only keeps ur skin and body hydrated it also helps to flush out bad toxins in the body, keeps ur system clean and in good working order, the recommended is 8 big glasses of water a day, this dosent have to be total water can be any fluid such as fruit juices, soups, milk etc etc

You piss alot

makes you go to the toilet alot, but apart from that it cleans your insides

drinking water is good for you as it helps flush toxins from your body.
all so helps your kidneys as they produce all the urine that you pass.
as for too much being dangerous yes this is true and indeed can and is fatal.
and this is one of the reasons that e can cause death in users.as taking e promotes thirst and the more water you take never seems to quench your thirst so you drink more and more water.
as too much water can make the brain swell up and as theres not much room in the head for it to swell that much it has to stop but it can not so you pass out and if no medical aid is forthcoming too much damage is done to the brain and a coma Will be the next step followed closely by death

Well, following an operation a couple of years ago, I was encouraged to drink lots of water.....I have to admit, I couldn't quite manage the reccommended two litres, but I did try and drink as much as possible!!

Apart from the obvious.....frequent visits to the loo, which soon wore off once you got used to it, my skin became much clearer, I lost weight without feeling hungry all the time, and I felt I had loads of energy.

I still try and drink a few glasses of water every day now, I'm not a great fan of tea or coffee, so I just have a nice, ice cold glass of water instead. Invest in a filter jug...it really makes a difference!
