Bakery owner or chef for hotel?!

Question: I'm an aspiring chef and I think I might be leaning toward pastry and baking rather than cooking. I am in college right now and I plan to continue up until I get my associates in accounting(I really just want to have something else under my belt) then I'll go to culinary school from there. My main question however is, although I do hope to work in a restuarant for a bit, is it better to own your own bakery shop or work for a hotel or something? I have always thought myself as being capable and strongly wanting to own my own business but which route is more realistic?

If you think you want to own a bakery, getting your A.S. in accounting is a good idea. Starting a business takes a lot of capitol, but if you are willing to do the work, owning a business is very satisfying. I think you will find working for a hotel to be underpaying and unsatisfying. Best of luck in your endeavors.

Well - it really depends on what you want to do. If you have the drive and motivation to achieve something more than another, you will have a greater chance of success. A lot of bakeries or restaurants have a high failure rate, so that's why I mention drive and motivation. You have a better chance of keeping your job if you apply to be a pastry chef at a prestigious hotel, because then you can just focus on creating things and not worrying over money and inventory levels. Good luck!

it denpend it could rather own a bakery because it could take off and youd make good mney when working for a hotel the money is a fixed amount

Well if you have your own place you have to shell out money however if you work for a hotel you can see how it's run, and you can learn differents things from other chefs. You can earn money at the hotel by working to build up to your own place.
