Why are poultry and seafood not considered meat by some people?!

This is what i have gathered, In Catholicism during lent you wern't allowed to eat meat on Fridays, but fish and seafood was ok. This is where the "Clam chowder Friday's" started at most restaurants. so, since the catholics don't consider fish a meat, then it isn't a meat, and some of those creatures filter instead of breathe.

I actually asked that to some of my friends who were vegatarians but needed more protein in their diets and they told me that they will eat anything that doesn't have four legs. I mostly believe it is because they are not red meats.
