For some events a big pan of a main food works good, my family is Italian and we always do like a huge pan of Baked Ziti (Pasta baked with italian red sauce, ricotta cheese, mozzarella I think, Garlic, Eggs, Salt, Pepper) -miz that all together and bake it up, topped with a layer of cheese on top to get all golden brown.
And with that we do a pan of meatballs and a pan of sausage to go with. They can eat that with the pasta, or make a sub of out the meatballs or sausage.

Desserts:
always cakes, cupcakes
mini cheesecakes
choclate fountain with accompaniments like marshmallows, bananas, strawberries, pretzels, etc.

you did not say the age of the people at the party or what kind of theme you are doing but first things first - decoration- balloons, than for food . pizza plain is good- make a big crook pot of chili and chips, finger sandwiches , mini hot dogs, little appetizers that are already done and all you have to do is place them on a cookie sheet and pop them into the oven. ask Friends to bring things too so you can all share and you don't have to do all the work. make sure you have enough soda . punch and water for the drinks and enough plates and such. music and always wear a big smile and you will have a great party.

Sloppy joes are always a hit, and there are advantages.....it can be made the day before. At party time, keep the mixture in a crock pot- it will always be ready whenever the guests would like one. Fruit and or cheese plates are always nice, and can be made as simple or as fancy as you like.
