Can you buy brown food colouring (in Australia) or do you have to mix it?!

Question: If so where from?

I need brown and caramel to make a lion bday cake

If you want a dedicated dye as opposed to using ingredients that will give the cake the colour you want, you will probably have to mix.

I have a box of Queen food dyes and the only four colours in the box are red, yellow, blue and green. Not really even sure if anyone else bothers to make food dyes for the Australian market, or if they do, the alternate products are different from the Queen's brand. If you go to Their website (www.queensessences.com.au); you will find their product range does not include a brown colour.

Another maker called Range Products of WA (www.rangeproducts.com.au) does have a brown colour dye but they seem to only seem wholesale and in quantites that food makers would buy as opposed to a domestic user.

It may be possible if you go to a dedicated specialty store but it might not be worth the bother. Just mix equal portions of red, blue and yellow together for basic brown and adjust if required.

Hope it turns out okay :-)

either mix red into green, or blue into orange. Both will end in brown.

Green=yellow+blue
Orange =yellow+red

just mix the third color slowly until you get what you want. I would start with the orange since it matches a lion much better and will be a more complimentary brown in contrast

use cocoa powder for brown and mix yellow and cocoa powder to make the golden colour
