Why does lunchmeat get slimy? and is it still edible? its about a week old?!

it usually gets slimy because the protein is breaking down, I would not eat it!

Do the smell test, if it smells nasty; then it is.....

the film is bacteria starting to grow. it has not spoiled yet but will real soon. wash it off or trash it.

If it's slimy it's bad. It shouldn't do that in just a week tho.

No! If it's slimey its bad. I freeze half of the pkg and keep the other half in the fridge til needed.

yea i would throw it away, most lunch meat last 4 or 5 days. ask the person at the deli exactly how long. try getting smaller quantities or even freezing half till the other gets old.
