Yes it is lazy, but if like me you work shifts and are starving at 9pm at night and you need a proper meal it's so much quicker and more convenient. It's not something I use often, but it is a really quick alternative for people that are late workers!

Very lazy

tut tut! naughty delia

is she? my word mash is easy to make, i would'nt dream of buying frozen mash i bet it tastes like rubbish, i have tasted the microwave stuff and it tastes like plastic.

I guess its quick if your in a rush and some people, not me I might add, actually prefer it to the real thing.

I always live by the philosophy of 'Life's too short to stuff a mushroom' and frozen mash is actually very nice. It is also very convenient if you are eating alone. I don't think Delia is a cheat, she has already taught us all to cook mashed potato if we wish to.

yeah... what you said!

Im just waiting for the deluge of female shoppers tonight omg have you got any frozen mash love. She done that before with bloody goose fat lol

No more so than Nigella Lawson

Maybe so but I ALWAYS! boil the potatoes dry and they end up burned! (it's the only thing i do burn mind!) so frozen mash is the best thing to me even i can't burn that! Its alway guaranteed to go down well and never has lumps.

True, Leo! Nigella uses Smash in her latest book! Anyway, surely it's got to be better to use frozen mash in a recipe than to buy a ready-meal...

That's just plain lazy, my Mum used to buy that Smash in a tin years ago, it was nasty, the only good thing about it was the advert, with the robot aliens.
I think even my dogs would turn their noses up at frozen mash.

Why anyone would want to eat that is beyond me!! It's so easy even i can make proper mash

Dear me, what is this world coming to!
Do these cooks have a hidden agenda?
Here's one person who will not be joining the mad rush to buy it.

It doesn't take that much effort to make your own mash and (if you must) freeze it in the portion you like or in the shape to fit the dish you're going to use it on.

I would never buy it again, tried it once and it was horrible.

I'm a great fan of Delia and presume she's being her usual practical self and keeping abreast with modern lifestyles which include emergency storing.
She does use the word 'cheat' in the title of her best selling book, so why not- it's only a suggestion to keep on hand not a rule for life!

Frozen peas, beans, sweetcorn,CHIPS - the list goes on and I don't hear anyone decrying those - so why not mash. Have you thought of how long it takes to peel and cook potatoes for 1 serving and at what cost not to mention the washing up. Be reasonable.

Yeah i make my own :

Milk: half pint
2 tablespoons butter
salt
blackpepper
potatoes

How to make

Boil potatoes unitl nice and soft
drain pf the water
pour back in pot
pour in milk then mix and stir it in with the masher
add the butter mix it in
and as much salt and pepper you want

yes its easy but its easier still to open a packet!!! didnt expect this of delia, where did this happen?

UGH! - I wouldn't consider buying such cr@p

OR HER BOOKS EITHER.

This is not the first time Delia has told us how to cheat at cooking.
Back in the late 70s, she bought out a cookery book of the same title when she was writing a column for the Evening Standard.
I'm sure we all have frozen/dried/tinned/packets of ingredients in our food cupboards that we use for ease and time saving. All she is doing is suggesting ways of making them taste even better.
Frozen mash is not something I would ever use though.

yea lazy but aunt Bessie's mash is so nice i have it in because sometimes its easier than starting from scratch when your in a hurry especially when you got a screaming hungry 2 year old round your feet and you just come in and your running behind 2 Min's in the microwave with a bit of cooked meat and you've got a happy child while you put the shopping away .................priceless

I have not seen her cheating recipes yet, but I guess it is easy to use packaged foods if you have a family or can afford it. I get very tired cooking from fresh, but being single it is not an economy to "cheat"!

He is damn lazy dude..

and shes a lezbian shhhbbc
