In the u.s. can i get bacon, like the british back, i can only find streaky?!

Question: Hi,
I was advised, correctly, when travelling parts of the US in a rental RV, or big camper van as we Brits call them, to take a goodly supply of middle & back bacon

I never did find out why US bacon is mostly streaky.
What happens to the rest of the animal ?

OK pork chops, hams, salami, belly pork etc, but no decent back bacon

Oh well, it is apparantly illegal to smuggle in good British or Danish bacon for personal consumption, but I got away with it !

If it is a scarce commodity the you have a fine oppurtunity to start an import business

I could be your UK exporter

Just a thought !

Bob, with a fine back bacon sandwich for lunch
Yums

what do you mean streaky?? do you mean marbalised?
look in the grocery store for "fat back"

This might depend in which part of the states you live in....

In the south your not likely to find it in stores.....but Im our area of the south we have a lot of farmers who slaughter and process their own pork....We buy our sausage this way....

then there is alway the internet.....which, for a small fortune you can have most anything you want...

Are you only looking in supermarkets or have you checked with a local butcher shop? Butchers tend to carry more specialized meat and should be willing to custom cut whatever you need.

We call that "Canadian bacon" here.

I would try a butcher shop.
