Do sardines contain a lot of bones?!
Also, any recommendations on best cooking method and what to serve them with?
Thanks!
Answers: I'm planning on trying some sardines this evening. Is it true that there are lots of little bones to watch out for, more so than in other types of fish?
Also, any recommendations on best cooking method and what to serve them with?
Thanks!
Yeah they have an awful lot of bones and I find they are smelly, not a good choice on a dinner for two. When I last had them I had them served on a circular peice of wholemeal toasted bread, put the fish done in a fresh tomatoe sauce on the top ith a sprig of rosemary and a side salad. It was nice though the bones put me off. Tuna done like that is wonderful, it flakes lovely in the sauce. Good Luck!!
yes they do have little bones in them, they are not the most easy fish to eat, i dont by them fresh, however, i do by them canned in tomato sauce and i serve them with lots of toast and salad on the side very healthy, full of omega 3 :>)
love them fresh, yes there are a lot of bones ,but try to prise the middle open and pull out the spine with other bones attached, i like them marinated in olive oil garlic and lemon, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm but they are best barbecued, and eat plenty of bread with them as that helps with the bones, tinned sardines are NOTHING compared to fresh.
They have lots of very small bones dont try pulling thm out they are possible to eat just take the large ones out. They have a strong tase you will eithe like them or you won't like them. I don't but know others who do so it might be wort giving them a try they are very good for you
dont eat them there rank and full of bones
yes............sardines do containa lot of bones.........i prefer the tinned ones the bones melt away.........i would grill them with garlic and a dash of mustard with a few green peppers........they are packed with proteins if eaten fresh
I don't know any sardine recipes but I do know a trick for getting the bones out before you cook them:
Cut the head off and cut the sardine open along the belly. Split it right open along the backbone, like butterflying a prawn.
Put it on the chopping board skin side up, and press down right along the backbone with the heel of your hand. This will separate the backbone from the flesh.
Turn it over and peel the backbone off - most of the other bones should come with it. Cut the backbone off at the tail, if you're leaving the tails on.
Hope it goes well!
You can buy boneless ones in tins with a marinade on it or you can buy tin ones with bones in them but you can eat them any way because they are very soft you would'nt even notice or tell that they are there.
