Why are hot dogs so bad for you?!

Question: What ingredients are in them? A lot of people I know are swearing of hot dogs "because of what is in them."

Answers: What ingredients are in them? A lot of people I know are swearing of hot dogs "because of what is in them."

Weiner content is regulated by law in the United States. Beef or all-beef hot dogs as the name implies , must contain only beef with no soy or other fillers. Kosher hot dogs are all beef, sometimes flavored with garlic. Weiners simply listed as "meat" usually has a mix of beef, pork, and sometimes chicken. "Frankfurters" may be made from a combination of meats and by-products, and can contain up to three and a half percent fillers by law. Other ingredients consist of flavoring, like garlic, salt, sugar, mustard, coriander, and white pepper. A hot dog by law may have up to 30 percent fat and 10 percent water.

So the message seems simple: stay with the higher-end, all-beef hot dogs and you generally won't run into ingredients you'd rather not name. Of course, if you are vegetarian, chances are you aren't even reading this; but if you are, there is a tube of tofu in a casing so you won't feel left out at the next Fourth of July party.

Now that we have the unsavory connotation dealt with regarding hot dogs, franks, and wieners, what about their nutritional value? How unhealthy are they?

All Hotdogs contain sodium nitrite.
researchers consider sodium nitrite a carcinogen and other experts swear that it isn't. Sodium nitrite does protect effectively against botulism and is used as a preservative and flavor enhancer in many foods, including the hot dog. Some research has indicated that sodium nitrite is associated with higher risks of lung cancer and heart disease. It has also been reported that some people experience a drop in blood pressure after consuming sodium nitrite.

I'm curious as well.

I do know that they are the left over meat parts- ALL of them- ground up.

Beef--beef franks

pork--pork franks

chicken---chicken franks

turkey - turkey franks

Hope this clears up your problem

They contain lots of nitrates to preserve it

depends on what type but they have lots of saturated fat!

It's basically all the left over meat of different animals

They're high in fat and sodium. But beef hot dogs are pretty damn good.

hot dogs are good especially if they have ketchup. I don't know why people say hot dogs are bad.

Well that is exactly the point, there is little meat in hot dogs and they are mainly reconstituted ingredients. Seriously, would you eat mystery meat? Yes the pork comes from pigs, but lets just say you don't know what parts of the pig have actually been used, same goes for that character meat, oh and in hot dogs all the reject bits of chicken are used, there's a proper name for it, only I can't remember. Basically its all the sh*t bits of meat that no one would ever want!

OK that just leaves more for me.

they taste like bologna

they get pigs really fat and the calories and fat and the fat and calories get on the hot dog but plus they put alot of oil and grease on it when they cook it.

Everything is bad for you, but wait a year and it will be good for you. Chocolate, eggs, milk, bread, smoking, sex, etc.

I used to work in Meat Packing....Hot Dogs are nothing more than lips and A$$H**es wrapped in sheepskin!

MMMMMM GOOOOODDDDD!!!!!

It is'nt the dogs that are bad for you , it's what's in them. They originated in Los Angeles and were originally known as "LA DOGS" , for what was in them. Lips and A~~holes. Good Luck !!

THEY ARE...............woopsieee...........
