Answers: Is it suppose to do something or prevent something. Please if you could include link, thank you!

OK. Here is the CORRECT answer.

This type of hat is called a "toque blanche" (French for "white hat"). It is usually shortened to just "toque" (Pronounced toke). They are worn because the health department requires restaurant employees to wear a hat or hair restraint of some sort. (It doesn't have to be a toque.) This prevents hair from falling into the food.

These style of hats (including the complete uniform) evolved over time. Restaurants have really not been around for that long. The first restaurants opened in the 16th century.

It is believed that the toques originated in the 18th century when professional cooks wore "casque a meche", (stocking caps) which were popular in France at that time. The color of the casque a meche denoted the rank of the wearer. Bouche, the personal chef to French statesman, Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Perigord, was the first chef to insist that all cooks wear white hats for sanitary reasons.

This style evolved into the present day toque. It is believed that the famous French chefs Marie Antonie Careme and Auguste Escoffier were responsible for the design. The height of the hat (not the number of pleats) represents the rank of the chef (in SOME professional kitchens).

These hats have 100 pleats. It is believed that this represents the chef's knowledge of the number of ways to cook an egg.

it prevents hair from falling into the food. yucky!

they wear the hat to show that they are chefs, and to show their position- also, it holds back their hair a little, and it looks cool

cause they look awesome! and sexy, and make them look manly, or womanly.

it keeps the sweat in hes hair from dripping into the food and their hair falling in the food

As others have said already, all working with food should cover their hair. Chefs, originally, wore a tube which allowed their hair to be restrained and their head to keep cool since the heat could rise. Later, for some reason which I do not know, the top was filled in

The first three answers are all correct if inclomplete.
They keep hair from falling in the food. They keep the hair from getting in the chefs eyes. They look cool. And the number of pleats used to indicate the chefs rank in the kitchen. More pleats, higher rank.

beacuse there cool
