Please In cooking in the Slow Cooker, will poultry cook? the directions say no?!

Question: The site directions say

Ground meat or poultry (with the exception of meat loaf) must be fully cooked prior to transferring into the slow cooker.
Never place cold, raw meat – right out of the refrigerator – into the slow cooker
Thanks

Well I do all the time. That's what the slow cooker is all about.
I cook chicken, chops, roast beef, roast pork, stewing beef etc from the raw state all the time.I can't imagine why the directions to your slow cooker would be saying not to.

Hmm well I would suggest partly cooking it another way and then adding it into the slowcooker!!

That's weird. I think it might be the manufacturers that fear the low heat won't get the food hot enough to kill everything. However, if you leave the meat in for the full amount of time, it will be cooked.

I do that all the time. As long as you cook it 8-10 hours, it is fine.
I have no idea why they would say that!

I agree with Paul, it's probably concerns about bacteria. There is a food danger zone for food that goes between 40 and 140 degrees for over 4 hours.

However, I've put an uncooked chicken directly out of the refrigerator into a crock pot for several hours on high temperature (it will boil this way) and add water and powdered buillion, or add chicken broth into it instead of water.
When it's falling off from the bone, I remove most of the broth and place in a large pan and go to boiling, then add egg noodles for 20 minutes.

I cook meat in my slow cooker all the time. Just make sure you cook it long enough. I always brown ground meats first, unless I am making crock pot meatloaf.
