hell yes! i brought a block of chocolates from my local milk-bar and they were off. the chocolate tasted like crap, the texture was all wrong. to make the chocolate eatable i had to melt it in the microwave...but by all means give the chocolate to your friend, how were you supposed to know it was off ;)

chocolate does expire it gets gross but like after maybe half a year or a whole yr

If it's turning grey or white I'd advise throwing it away.

Chocolate has a shelf-life of one year from date of production. Accounts by other answerers to your question about white spots or molds growing on chocolate bars are indeed a sign of outdated merchandise. I once bought a Mounds bar at a gas station and opened it to find greyish circles all over it the size of the eraser tip of a pencil. I looked at the wrapper and it had been expired for a few months. Call the 800-numbers on the back of the candy bars to find out if your chocolate has been shelved beyond it's expiration date. Also, if you're buying Valentine candy right now, chances are that the retailer has had it in-stock since Christmas and it was produced by the manufacturer at Halloween time so it will only be fresh until next October hits. Just because it's new on the shelfs, doesn't mean it hasn't been in storage for a while. Valentine chocolates purchased this February will NOT remain fresh until next February.

it gets bad after like 1 year so dont get worried!!
